Some stories begin long before a foal ever takes her first breath. Lucy’s began the moment her mother, Ellie, was sent to auction as “exposed” — a heartbreaking label meaning she might be pregnant, but no one cared enough to find out. From the auction, Ellie landed in the kill pen, frightened, alone, and carrying a life no one knew for certain existed.
But when Heart N Soul Farm Rescue & Rehab stepped in to save Ellie, we weren’t just saving one life. We were unknowingly saving two.

A Birth Wrapped in Hope
When Lucy was born, it felt like the world paused for a moment. This beautiful palomino filly arrived bright‑eyed, soft‑hearted, and full of promise — as if she had stepped into the world determined to enchant every person she met.
And she did.
Lucy’s sweet soul drew people in instantly. Her curiosity, her gentle nature, and her keen mind made her a joy to work with. She learned quickly and willingly, soaking up new experiences with the confidence of a filly who trusted her humans completely.
During her time at the rescue, Lucy learned:
Basic ground manners
Leading politely on a halter
Standing tied
Standing for the farrier
Being easily caught
She was even introduced to having a saddle pad placed on her back — not to start her under saddle, but to gently expand her world so that future training would feel familiar, not frightening.
Lucy was growing into a confident, thoughtful young horse — exactly what we hoped for when we gave her mother a safe place to land.

When her adopters reached out, they knew exactly what they were looking for: a young horse they could raise, train, and shape from the ground up. They had already partnered with a professional trainer and created a home environment designed to support a growing filly.
